I just realized that my odometer has stopped working! Oddly enough, if I tap on it, it starts working again for a mile or two before breaking again. Its the trip odometer, and the main odometer (they are both broken). Is this common, and if so, what do I need to do to fix it?

My '92 Q odometer works sporadically. I got the car at 131K and have driven at least 70K (tracked manually using digital trip odometer) and odometer shows 156K.

It'll give you a better settlement from the insurance company should the car be totaled. Don't complain!

Yeah - I guess thats one approach - to just feel happy that my mileage will not go up too much! :) It'd be nice to be able to honestly tell the next owner how many miles it has though (of course, I'm planning drive it until 200k, so who's going to care by that point anyways!).... we'll see - the mechanic is taking a look tomorrow.

That happened to my previous I30 which was a '97. The whole unit, speedometer and odometer had to be replaced. The local Infiniti dealer charged me over $400 but they did set the odometer to the correct miles.
