Odometer Not Calculating Properly

Postby wattsonb » Wed Mar 11, 2015 7:31 am

Howdy everyone. We just purchased a 2009 G37 Convertible Coupe, and it seems we have a problem with the odometer not accurately logging miles. The speedo and tacho seem to be working correctly, and the odometer display is lit, but after driving 50 - 75 miles it is only recording maybe ten miles. I am thinking the display is OK but that either the sensor and/or the computer black box that does the calculations has a glitch. Can anyone give me a rough idea how the system works? I am also assuming this is not a common problem as I cannot find anything like it on the WWW. Any suggestions?

Hmm, I was able to find this article online Misleading Mileage: Is your car's odometer working properly?

First, make sure your tires are in good shape; improperly inflated or worn tires can throw off your reading. Another possible issue? The gauge could just be calibrated differently.

Thanks for the reply. Brand new tires fitted, and even that I think would have to be off quite a lot to lose so much on the odometer. Running it by the dealer tomorrow for an expert opinion. I'll keep you posted on our findings.

The plot thickens - it looks like the trip meter is running accurately while the odometer is off by 25% or more to the low side. Weird

HELP! I have the same problem and can't find anything other than a couple of reports of people with the same issue. No resolution.

I just bought a 2008 G37s with just over 60K. I didn't think anything of it because it was one-owner and more of a weekend car than a daily driver, or so I was told. I drove the car home 400+ miles and it only registered about 120 on the odometer. The speedometer is accurate. Everything is factory original, no customization of the head unit. The trip meter is also impacted. I reset the trip at a tank fill-up and it looks like a full tank only got 100 miles before it was empty. It's bizarre. Not only do I feel like I got ripped off, I don't know how to fix it or how much it will cost. Anyone ever find the answer to this thread?

I have a 2005 G35 and am used to those dash clusters reading fuel inaccurately, but I thought I was finally breaking free from cluster issues.
