if the numbers turn when you spin the gears than the odometer is fine mechanically. we need to figure out the reason the servo isn't turning. Now it could be either a bad servo, a bad speedometer, or (unlikely) a bad gauge cluster. If the speedo works, it is most likely either the servo or the speedo unit. I had a nearly identical problem, my odometer would only work occasionally but it just eventually just stopped. I worked on it for a couple nights and it started working again when I replaced the speedo unit and left the original odometer and servo in there. To determine if the servo was turning, I hooked up the cluster when it was apart and put a mark on the servo gear and drove around to see if it was spinning. Kind of hard to drive with the column dropped and the cluster out, but I got tired of hooking everything back up to test it after a few times. Probably you found so much different advice because many times the poster hasn't been able to rule out certain problems off the bat like you did with the odometer gearing.
