Any 200,000 mile Q45's out there.

With regular maintenance, when do usually kick the bucket?

My tech says that when he worked for an Infiniti dealer back East, a customer brought his Q in with over 300k miles and wanted the motor rebuilt. It ran okay, and tested out good, so they told him he didn't need it. He was a salesman and traveled a lot. Anyway, he insisted. They tore the motor down, and were surprised to fnd that it had no measurable wear.FWIW, the guy DID perform recommended mainteance religiously. They put it back together and gave it back to him. No info on it after that, as the tech moved here to Phoenix shortly afterward.

The same tech says that Q trannies are strong too, and should with proper care and no abuse last at least 250k miles, maybe more.

YMMV

Brian, you are a great source of information and a big help to G50 and Y33 owners here. I think you need to keep your '95 "t" model G50 and the 2000 Y33, and replace the standard '95 G50 with an F50, say a 2004 0r 2005. Maybe then us orphan F50 owners can get the benefit of your insight and wisdom too. It seems like most F50 owners are concerned more with lowering and wheels than anything else, and like to post pictures of them with grille and spoiler mods. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's more to Q45s than that. Besides, F50 owners have other issues too.

2004 and 2005 Q45s can be had for a pretty good price nowadays, and while not the accomplishments that the G50 s were, are still pretty nice.

Besides, I like to see nice people have nice things. :-)

Ill never hear the end to this reply!!!!! I'm betting the majority of these dont have timing chain guides done and they have lasted a long time!!! I got 2 1991 Infiniti Q45s One has over 220,000 no reverse and the other 103,000 miles. If timing chains are so important and THEY ARE how did ALL THESE CARS MAKE IT SOOO HIGH IN MILEAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The acidic byproducts from the decomposition of petroleum oil slowly (or quickly) destroy the plastic guides. Under ideal conditions, the oil is not abused and is changed often, or synthetic oil has been used. It's highly unlikely that any guides have endured 220,000 miles without failing - you've checked your timing cover to be certain it's never been removed?

I believe I once ran across ONE engine that had the original guides in it with over 200,000 miles - had seen nothing but synthetic oil all its life. Yours might be the second ever known.

... tick, tick, tick ... boom!

Possibilities that I can think of:

A. You have been lucky.

B. Your guides may already have been changed.

C. Your guides may already be partially broken, and it is just waiting for the next high-speed or high-rev run to give up the ghost on the machine ... catastrophically.

The car is a 1991. I'm not sure about the guides. I just found out a couple months ago about the chain guide problem. Unfortunately, I don't have the funds yet to fix them if they haven't been changed.

wish I could find someone who knows the engine to rebuild mine. I need a reliable ride cross country and I'm not sure if mine will make it much longer due to the previous owner...

The engine itself is very reliable.

It's just everything attached to it that fails
