Does anyone know how the internals of the odometer is assembled in the S13 HUD cluster? I am swapping clusters in the near future and the law requires that either the new odometer matches the old one OR it is reset to 0. Any assistance would be appreciated.

The whole odometer can be swapped over to the other cluster, or you can just set it to what the old one was.
Take a look at the plastic gears in there and pick whichever one looks better.

PapaSmurf,

Thanks for the reply. I ended up taking the cluster apart, removing the odometer and trip meter, removing the electric motor, separating the trip and odometers, and finally spinning the odometer in reverse.

The car has 106,160 original miles and I set the Odometer to 106,250 to give me some more time to drive the car before I swap gauges.

Just a side question. Does the display for the MPH in the digital gauge have its own light source or does it use the 194 series bulbs in the back of the cluster? I know it displays white stock so I was wondering if changing the bulbs would affect its color.

I've never torn into a HUD cluster, but maybe they have it in the FSM?

Just an update. If I'm reading the FSM correctly, it looks like the LCD has its own light source on its own circuit. If that is true than changing the color of the speed display in the digital dash is going to be more difficult than just swapping a bulb.

So when you say its own light source, you mean the LCD itself is the light source (not a bulb)?

The symbol looks like a bulb, but I'm thinking it is probably an electroluminescent panel instead. I'll know better this weekend hopefully.

If you change the light color on the cluster, it will not effect the light color of the LCD.

That's what I feared. Thanks for the clarification.

Just an update. Got the dash in and just got a tiny section on the windshield for the HUD. All is working perfectly now.
