I learn something everyday, Federally vehicles 10 years or older are exempt from this fraud in that no statement of reading is required.
But many states require a NUMBER be filled in to transfer but after 10 years it is not enforcable [criminally] but you can still sue in civil court
for fraud if you can PROVE the actual mileage.

You can with effort trace the vehicle registration history across US even thru the rebuild and laundering process.

Any knowledgeable vehicle buyer will know that mileage is irrelevant when buying a used car... You inspect all necessary components, and you take care of everything that needs attention... mileage does not really matter.

It does if you plan to sell at Barret Jackson or just plan to sell to another person.

Who in there right mind would buy a car thats had the odometer rolled back once or even twice? Before I found my 1993 Q45 I found a 1994 Q45 with a green (DJ2) exterior and a beige interior (Same colors as my 1993 Q45). I checked with Car Fax and it said the odometer was rolled back TWICE.

I usually assume that the odometer is inaccurate as to avoid surprises. Trusting the low odometer reading may lull one into a false sense that all is well with the vehicle when in fact it may not. Low miles does not equate to good maintenance.

My own $.02. I once bought a Ford Taurus SHO used from a dealer. It had 15k miles on the clock and it was 5 years old. I doubt that the car could only have been driven 3k miles a year. However, this car was so clean that it looked new both inside and out and performed like a new car with all the complicated bits working as new. I checked compression, suspension (even the underside was very clean) and everything else because I doubted the odometer. I decided to buy the car.

A year down the road I met the PO. It turns out that the odometer was replaced as it had failed. According to the PO it was replaced at 25k miles. So I did not have a 15k mile car but had a 40k mile car. Was I upset? Not one bit. I bought the car because of its condition regardless of its odometer reading.

When I sold it three years later I told the buyer the story and marked off True Miles Unknown on the odometer statement.

Why the newer Infiniti M45 owners manual WARNS against driving the vehicle TOO LITTLE annually....................7500 mile minimum since modern vehicles are designed to only last 7-10 years.............without serious expense from mega parts replacement.

My son bought a turbocharged Firebird [1 year special TransAm] from a museum with 1,000 miles and 7 years..............everything rubber was rotten cost $7,300 in parts to restore.

My neighbor is doing body work on an immaculate 1982 MB 300D it is pristine everywhere.
