When I turned my PF on earlier, I noticed the odometer was backlit. The headlights were off, and the dimmer switch was at maximum. Even with the dimmer switch at the off setting, the odometer was backlit. With the headlights on and dimmer switch at maximum, the odometer remained backlit; with headlights on and dimmer off, the odometer is no longer lit. Is this the way it's supposed to work? I've never seen this before. This started after I replaced my rear defroster switch's main illumination bulb - it seems crazy to think that they are related somehow.

Looking at the wiring schematic, it appears that the odometer trip meter lighting is independently powered from the tail lamp relay (which controls illumination for everything else), but illumination still has control over it in certain circumstances as I mentioned above. Why it started to randomly work all of a sudden still baffles me, though. :wtf2:

Last time I checked my odometer is always on whether I have my headlights on or off. It does dim when I have the headlights on and I turn the dimmer switch down.

So it's working properly now. I'm still quite baffled as to why it started working again - though I don't mind it, I think it's nice. I suppose I could disconnect the rear defroster switch and see if the backlighting goes out, but that would be even more puzzling since as far as I can tell the two are unrelated.
