94 Q

I have a dead bulb in the trip odometer window

Is it correct that you have to "pull the dash" to change this, and can anyone tell me if it is worth it to do. Do I need special tools.

I have the "service manual" booklet that I get with the car '94, but can't seem to locate specific info about how to get to that particular bulb

Thanks

I've got the same problem in my 90Q and will wait to pull the dash apart until something more significant needs fixing or I'm really looking for a time filler!

Since all the dash bulbs are on at the same time good idea to replace them all when one goes as the others can't be far behind considering that two hours [for an expert] is necessary to get the cluster in and out .

You don't have to remove the entire dash to access the cluster but it is quite involved. I would recommend replacing all the bulbs also. No special tools required.

Wow, I must be an expert! I bet I could get the cluster in and out (round trip) in 45 minutes... Maybe a friendly bet for a few beers when I come down for the guides on Q2? :)

I done this more times than I would like to think about......I had a problem with Odometer.Start down by the shifter, like you are takeing out the radio, once you have that done, start on the upper dash trim.....MAKE SURE YOU GO SLOW........if this is your first time.....there are pins that can break----I learned the hard way. Don't fotget the trim on the left side of the steering wheel. There are four screws holding the cluster.......remove them.....when the cluster is out you need to unplug the wires.....than you can go in the house get a cold one and sit down and look at the cluster, and will see slid pin around the edges...work slow....work the pin lose and the cluster will come apart....once apart you will hind the bulbs. I believe there are about four. G O O D L U C K !!!!!!:ylsuper

NO THANKS!!!! my odometer works sometimes, but i just KNOW i'll never be able to put it all back together the right way. since i plan on keeping the Q till she's dead, no need to stress over the miles!!!

ps-just in case i HAVE to sell her (to another NICO member), it has between 100k and 110k miles, currently!!!!LOL

I removed my gauge cluster and replaced it in about 30 minutes. Not sure how similar it is to the Q, but all it took was a screwdriver. I can't see it being much harder.
