i bought a 93 240sx with about 88k miles on it and i was on my way to drop the seller at his home when i noticed the odometer nor the tripmeter didnt work.the speedo goes up, the revs go up, but the odo and trip seems to be stuck at the same posistion.. today i was driving it around and it went BACKWARDS?

does anyone know what i can do to make this damn odometer start rolling again? the previous owner never told me of this until we signed everything and i gave him a ride back home...i checked carfax and it only had about 7500mi annually but seems like the odo stopped working about after last year's inspection.it was same at 88,xxx which is one more mile than whats on my odo right now.. because it rolled back.

could it be a faulty *transmission?* sensor? any information would be appreciated.i really hope i dont have to tear the dash off to get behind the odo (if thats the case)

The odometer is driven off your speedo (as far as I can tell). So if your speed is registering correctly, you should pull the gauge cluster and make sure the odometer is plugged in.

Some basic instructions on how to remove the cluster (not all of it applies to your case, but will give you an idea):
