I just got an engine swap done to my s13. The motor is a used ka24de. I've got two small problems.

First one is, my power steering pump likes to get really hot. I used the correct lines and everything, but it doesn't seem to like me much. I accidently cracked a line and it suddenly cooled down. Alas, I still dont have p/s and am boggeled about whats going on. Also, does OR should the p/s belt have to run across the water pump? Would it be okay to run a shorter belt from the crank to the waterpump since my power steering is acting up?

Second issue. The motor is used. During and after running the car I see light smoke from around where the header meets the block and/or where the header meets my exhaust. I assume its just old oil burning off or am old worn gasket, but I am not sure and would much rather be safe then sorry. I can't pinpoint the smoke because it all flows up anyway.

If anyones got any ideas/solutions, they'd be greatly appreciated.

It could be a bad gasket. It almost may be a bad valve cover gasket and you may be leaking a bit of oil out of it and it drips down and burns.

Haven't hooked it up since the heating incident. The popular response is that it wasn't bled enough.
