odd trans problem

ok so our shift patern is like this
1,3,5
I-I-I
2,4,R

my 240 standard 91 ka i just got wont go into the top gears, it will go into 2,4,R just fine but if i go to put it in any of the top gears the shifter just pops back, no engagement. same thing when the car is on and runing. i have never come across this before, so any help or info would great

Seems similar to a problem the 91-94 sentra guys have. If it is this same problem, then its cheaper to get a new transmission, especially since its a KA. Where are you located?

sounds like something is wrong with the syncros

that sucks i was hoping maybe it was somethign i was over looking. im in allen park michigan, basically right under detroit.

Yea, on the sentras, it would keep popping out of 5th gear, and it turned out to be a synchro. I wouldn't be surprised if your synchros are bad. Go ahead and search around for a cheap 5speed trans. pretty sure its cheaper and less time consuming than a rebuild.

one of your shift linkages could be misaligned, remove front cover and check linkage positioning.
