Recently I've encountered a weird tendency for the car to shudder when I brake fairly hard (well before the threshold of locking, but not as light as stopping for a stoplight). It could be that my wheels might need to be rebalanced, since I've been getting high speed shudders. Any takers on what could be causing the braking shudder?

That's what I was figuring. I'll pull the pads tomorrow to see how they're wearing.

Excessive pad material build-up on the rotor possibly. Check for spotting of the rotors (darker spots, etc.). Other cases are rotor run-out (aka warped rotor), and poor pad wear due to improper break-in.

As a side note Checkered, typically uneven pad wear is a problem in the caliper, and or improper bedding procedure. You might wanna check the caliper for proper function as well.

it may be coming from one of the rear calipers. I know one of them is on its way out, but I don't have the money to replace or repair it at the moment, and was gonna let it ride the way it is for now till i can afford to replace it.

I have a set of rear calipers ... $50 + ship takes em.

I've got a bunch of people that want them, but no one seems to come up with the money.
