Odd Problem Relating to Stalling and Starting

Okay so lately I have been able to start my 1990 240 just fine. But its been having trouble staying in idle right from the start. If I try to go to soon it will stall. But thats not the problem...once it stalls it will not start for anywhere from 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It is ONLY after it stalls. The car seems to be getting spark and fuel from the smell of gas and the coil we checked. We are stumped?! We are going to change the fuel filter this weekend to see if it has any affect on the problem. It doesn't happen to frequently but when it does it seems to be with a line of cars behind me at a stop sign or always somewhere inconvenient hehe.

All help and suggestions will be much appreciated!!!!!!

hmm.. just cuz you can smell fuel doesnt mean its getting it... there might still be enough pressure in the system to make you think you are getting fuel.. go ahead and change your fuel filter, but double check the pump... have a friend go in the trunk, turn your key in the on position, but dont start it, listen for a high pitch whining noise.. if you hear it then your pump is priming like its supposed to, if not, then you most likely have an eletrical problem, or the pump its self is bad.. if it seems ok then just say that the pump is workin fine and ill try and look up all data for common problems for your symptoms..

Sounds like whats going on with my hatch. In my case I am almost certain its the timing chain which seems to be a common issue with the KA engines. Then again it might be something else who knows. Does the car seem to stall when you press the gas as if its lagging?
