Odd noise

So the cars been great for the past few months. And then today I noticed a weird sound. The spool/suction sound seems to have changed. Its got a somewhat odd noise, a "flutter" if you will. It doesnt seem to do it any higher than liek 3500rpn, but that may be because my exhaust note is drowning it out. I can however hear another odd noise when the turbo is at full boost(only 7psi). Anyone have any ideas what I may be hearing? If I can find sometihng to get a good audio clip, ill post one up.

a flutter is usually caused by your wastegate. does it only happen at certain RPMs? under certain loads? did you change your exhuast recently, possibly an exhaust leak that is allowing you to hear this noise....

Its not necessarily a bad thing and unless its affecting your performance I would worry about it. It sounds like a wastegate but I've heard funny things when a rock chips your turbine or something wierd... Are you running a filter?

If it is a problem, drive it till it blows and then just spring $80 for a new internal wastegate.

yes i have a filter. Havent changed the exhaust since ive had the car.

i hope it is the wastegate, so i can just get my buddies T28 and fix it.

Also, tonight I noticed at times the smell of exhaust, not sure if it was the car in front of me or not....maybe my elbow/downpipe is leaking?

there probably isn't anything wrong w/ your wastegate, you can just hear it through your possible exhaust leak.

a flutter to me sounds like an exhaust leak..check your exhaust system all the way from the turbo mani to the head, turbo mani to the turbo and all the way down your exhaust system.

ordered new gaskets from Enjuku tonight

gonna sea foam her tomorrow or Friday to verify there is a leak
