So, around the end of December and beginning of January, using my key fob I unlocked my car door, get into the car and attempt to start it. I got an error message stating my key was unrecognized. Thankfully I wasn't too far away from an Infiniti dealer and my car was towed there (thanks to my Elite warranty!).

Within a week I get my car back and all appeared to seem ok. I was told they part of the ignition that is paired with the car keys failed and had to be replaced. After getting it back, the car recognized both keys and there weren't any noticeable issues. That all changed about 2 weeks ago when one day I'm sitting in my office and I hear the anti-theft system go off (the factory system; I do not have any other alarm installed). I go outside to check my car and see there wasn't anything that triggered it. Then this week it happens once a day Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. I made an appointment for the dealer to check it (not the same one that repaired it when I had the issue). There weren't any codes, but they reprogrammed the alarm as a precaution. As I got into my car and started it, I noticed the door open warning was on, but the door was shut. I open and closed the door a couple times, but it wouldn't turn off. I alerted the service department and they pulled my car back in to check it out. There was now a code referring to some key registration. They wanted me to take the car home and check to see if the problem was only with the key I had that day or both keys.

I get home and try using my spare and got the same error. I called the dealership back and made another appointment for today. Got up this morning, started the car and the warning was still there. Drove to work, head out to go to the dealership and it was gone! Everything appears to be back to normal. My question is, should I be concerned? I called to cancel my appointment, because I didn't think there's anything they'd be able to do. Should I take it back in so they could check it out?

I'd bring them both keys and have them scan the car up and down. But then again, that's if you are willing to pay for the diagnosis.

Not sure if this is related but I have dealt with an issue with thh "door open" notification even though it was latched. I'll be interested to see what the dealership resolves your issue. Have you replaced the battery in your key fob recently?

Here is a link to my situation:

I've replaced the batteries recently, but not since having this issue. It's really strange, because the door open warning just went away. I need to go back to have something else done, so perhaps I'll bring both keys like Ilya suggested to see what's going on. One thing the tech noticed was one of the keys has an image of an SUV on the trunk release button and not a car. My other key has a car.
