So here's the story... I have a 91 BMW 318is that I got on the cheap with a salvage title. I was thinking about doing an engine swap, the 318is comes with a 1.8L 134hp 4cyl. Instead of a bigger/better BMW motor that would be expensive and so would it's parts, I was thinking it might be interesting to swap in a ka24de twin cam motor. The motor/trans would be cheaper than a newer faster BMW motor.

I've owned a '93 se coupe, and that car was so much fun to drive and the motor was a work horse. And I believe the BMW is ~200lb lighter than the 240sx.

So I guess my question is if anyone has heard of someone swapping a ka24de into something that wasn't a 240sx or Datsun 510? If so links or info would be helpful.

I know that custom motor mounts, drive shaft, exhaust, and wiring harness would have to be made.

I think it would be damn fun to show up to the track and pop the hood on my BMW and see what how people react to the little nissan truck motor sitting under the hood

well its your time/money.... I'm not up on all the bmw engine specs, but I would assume, they are better in terms of crank ballance and valvetrain,headflow... but IDK now toss this in there and they will love it. kitty ka~t ftw.

You don't remember the name of the company or what country they were in do you? That would help if I search.

The sr swap is tempting, but I was thinking ka because of how durable it is and how readily available parts are. Also due to emissions.

Putting any engine would be simple. As long as it clears the towers and room for radiator... Hardest part would be the mounts so the transmission shifter comes through the hole like factory. Only other main issue would be the factoy cluster which you'll probably need to get aftermarket gauges for water temp,RPM, pressure etc. Or find someone who knows resistors and modify it for you
