Odd issue in 3rd gear.....

I have had my versa for 5 days and I have noticed something odd in 3rd gear. If I put my foot on the gas and then take it off the shifter actually moves forward and backward slightly. (not much but enough that it is clearly visable to anyone in the car) It happens anytime the RPMS are between 3 and 4 K and the gas is let up and then added again. (I haven't gone over 4000 rpms so I'm not sure if it still happens up there but I assume it does)

I noticed it when I was driving and felt a "tap" on my shifting hand when I let of the gas and then accelerated again. The service manager is giving me a call and I will most definitely be bringing it in for them to look at.

Can someone else with a 6-speed manual let me know if there's does this or not? I'd really like to know.

Thanks!

Sounds like a boken motor mount.

We do that same test to find a broken motor mount in the Xterra. These new vehicles use soft neoprene motor mounts that snap fairly easily. The sacrafice strength for quietness.

My car has done this from day one, even before the "torque rod" broke. MOST manual cars I have driven do this, although on some of those it's because the shift bushing has worn out due to age.

I will let you know if fixing the torque rod fixes this issue, although I highly doubt it.

Mine has always doen this. I just figures that it was a results of having a more direct shift linkage. It's possible to have a little feedback through the shift forks.

Most mans that I've driven have done this. Granted that the mans that I've driven have been fairly older cars so I can't tell you if it normal for newer models.

Well, spoke to the dealer and they said that is normal function. Since others feel the same thing, I guess I believe them.

Thanks for the input all!

The term I would use is "inexperienced". And yes, it's just you.... unless you're tearing up 1st like you're driving a corvette. There's no way to smoothly shift from 1st to 2nd at more than about 4k rpm.

I finally got my V and I notice that the shifter moves a little bit just like other cars I've driven. There's enough movement to feel if you're holding the shifter. It's not enough movement for me to see the shift move around. I haven't noticed any kick from 1st to 2nd. I've found that there's no way to shift from 1st to 2nd above 3k. I've been letting the RPMs drop down to about 2200-2700 to try and get a smooth shift. All though it's incredibly annoying, you'll have to wait till the RPMs get down into this range to get that smooth shift.
