I noticed some odd gas gauge and Service Engine light behaviour today. After my wife came home from work I hopped in the Rogue and started it. No gas gauge bars were visible (I'd filled it yesterday), it displayed 0km left to drive and the Service Engine light was on. I wondered if someone had siphoned gas while the Rogue was in a parking lot all day, so I drove it to a gas station. Along the way, a gas bar lit up, then another. The km left displayed 7, 15, 22, 52, 60 but was still flashing. Once 3 bars lit up the gas symbol light stopped blinking. It took $9 to fill up, so there was plenty of gas left in the tank. I always make sure I hear clicks when replacing the gas cap by the way.

I started it and again, no bars and 0km left to go. I drove around the it slowly rose to about 1/3 of a tank and then showed the km driven (I'd reset it to 0). The Service Engine light stayed on all this time. When I got back home, the gas gauge displayed 1 bar under 1/2. I turned it off and it displayed 3/4 full. SE light was still on.

I figure the gas tank sensor is defective. I had it fixed during the last "campaign"/recall last summer - at a full tank the last bar wasn't showing, and after the repair it only lit up 50% of the time. Note that when I filled the tank yesterday the gas gauge displayed 3/4 full only, which increased as I drove around.

Anyone else experience this problem? I live 2 hours away from the nearest dealership, so I'll have to make an appointment for service during Christmas vacation.

One of the reasons I just live with the occasional missing last bar. The fear of bringing more problems. One would think that digital was better but it made me more anal.

I learned to relax and not letit bother me. It's good they brought the analog needle back for 2011. I like those better. I use to have a warm fuzzy feeling when I see the needle past the Full mark.
