I had a grinding sound in reverse so I replaced my rear brake pads and they went away. But now I have other sounds. The first is a high pitched woot ---woot--woot sound that gets faster as the tires rotate. It sounded like the something was wobbling and rubbing repeatedly so I took off the tire, checked everything over, and put it back on. But after a while the sound comes back. It comes and goes. My guess now is that its the sensor on the brake pad rubbing against something, but how can that be if I just replaced the pads? Can the sensors tell if the rotors are thin or warped?

When I did the pads I felt the rotors and they seemed smooth. Since I didn' t have the tools to check their width I just left them because they seemed ok. Could the rotors be causing this woot-woot-woot sound?

The second problem I have is a clicking that comes from the right rear tire as soon as i touch the brake pedal. It only happens when the car is in motion, so I cant inspect it. I dont have to hit the pedal hard to cause it, I just tap the pedal lightly and the click will occur in the back.

Let me know if you guys have any clues.

Thanks

On the first thing, do you have a shimmy or anyhting in the steering wheel... Some sort of vibration is what we're looking for...

As far as the clicking, my guess is you didnt install the shims correctly or something like that, either that or you didnt grease them enough and they theyre moving around too much.....

I'm not sure what a shimmy is. But there is no vibration on the steering wheel.

When i took off the old pads there were two retainer clips (top and bottom) but NO shims. I believe there were supposed to be an inner and outer shim that covers the outside of the pads. When I bought new pads, they came with neither retainer clips or shims. So I used the old retainer clips but not the shims. I THINK that I put the retainer clips in correctly...but can the fact that there are no shims cause that odd clicking? Can I pick up these shims from pepboys or only nissan?

Also, where do you apply the grease? Top and Bottom between retainer clips and the housing body right?

Thanks

You apply the grease anywhere the brake pad touches something metal, besides the rotor obviously... Be liberal with the grease!!!!

I dont know if you mentioned it but is this coming from the front or the rear...?

im not sure what is causing your noise, but its has to be something not installed correctly or something like that... My understanding is it sounds like a pulsating squeek..... My best guess is that something is stuck in there crooked.....

What I would try to do is go out and really hammer on the brakes (a couple 60-0 stops) and then see if that does aynthing... maybe we can force things back into place.....

I think that the stock 240 brakes are the same (or same design) as the Q45 brakes... THere should be something that prevent lateral motion of the pad... I'll be honest with you, i had that same thing on my old Q45, a clicking noise like that and I just lived with it......

ok. Does it matter that there were no shims? Only retainers.

I have the exact same thing, a grinding sound in the back right, and I DO have a shimmy in my wheel. (thanks to my stupidity and a small fender bender, I think I buggered up my tie rod ends) I am going to drive my parent's car to work tomorrow and take off the pads over the weekend. So what would a shimmy in the steering wheel mean? I thought the grinding sound and the wheel shimmy were seperate (pad and tie rod, respectively).
