Bringing back to life a 1989 240 SX automatic with overdrive. The OD switch when pressed it does allow the OD to work. But the switch does not remain pressed in and comes out immediately if not holding it in. Can I assume this is purely a defective OD switch and needs replacing? If so, how difficult is it to replace? At 55 mph the OD reduces the rpm nicely by 900 to 1,000 rev. Would be nice to have it working without manually holding in the sw. Where can I purchase a new OD switch?

I'm going to move this to the appropriate forum.

But in answer to your question, yes, you just need a new switch. I don't know auto's well enough to know if you can replace just the internal switch, or if you've got to replace the entire shifter. I'd start hitting up the junkyards and see what you can find.

Thank you getting into the correct phew. Sounds like the switch the issue and understand if so two set screws and then access to the sw. is possible. If all this is correct then a reasonable source for a new sw. would be appreciated. Think in the salvage yards a used switch may be no better then the one I am thinking needs to be replaced. Sources for a new switch?
