What does everyone use 91 or 93 octane in their Q's?

I can only get 91 locally.

However, I am currently testing a new product I was introduced to at SEMA - "clinical" results to follow in a couple weeks....

Octane is only added to the level needed to prevent knock. If your fuel is better (purer) than others your octance level will be lower. We have 10% ethanol here in IL and our octane addition is higher because of it.

Just remember the pump numbers are an average of 2 seperate tests, thus there is great 93 octane, good 93 octane, and not very good 93 octane! All a function of the refinery proceedure.

Since premium cost 3.5-5.0 cents more to make and the refiners do it in the least expensive ways that will still get close.

How much is the 95 stuff? In the winter likely not neccessary, but many high mile engines can benefit from higher octane in summer.

I would save the 101 octane for Friday nites when you race some young punks. It may not do you mucyh good but would add a margin of safety when your combustion chamber gets hot and prevent your KS from slowing you down.

Gas is pretty much all the same. Different additives from one brand to another. Stock is the same.

With the winter temps setting in, you really wouldn't need all that knock protection. Your call of course.

Octane is the only difference. That's federally regulated, so there IS a difference in grades. But Vimy is right - Brand is irrelevant.

I can only get 91, so you're fortunate.

I ran 3 tanks of 87 octane during Phoenix's severe fuel crisis, and I really didn't notice any difference in performance, and no audible knock.

Hmmm, I might just mention one apparent difference in brands. For some reason, I always seemed to get slightly better results (mpg) with Chevron's 91 octane unleaded.

And, supposedly, their Techron™ additive is a mild version of BG44K, so engines run cleaner ... in theory.

In the wonderful state of California, in some months, $2.15 / gallon for premium 91 oct would be considered a good price!

Our state taxes on gasoline is ridiculously high, plus the special requirements that the state puts on gasoline manufacturers makes the gasoline more expensive (of course, some of them use that as an excuse for higher than necessary prices!)
