once again the age old debate, do we ever really get what we pay for? no, seldom, sometimes? i would like to know of real world tests of octane boost concotions. who hasn't bought that tank-o-gas that just wasn't what it was sposed ta be? so let's slip by our local aotu whatever store and buy a can or 2 of WHAT? this one says this & that and one says 298% boost and we all know that marketing firms never lie. so what's a poor boy to believe? how about a couple a ozs. of acetone?> do we dare revive that debate?

If you can't get or afford racing gas, don't bother. Read Q45tech's posts on octane ratings and gasoline in general.

Acetone ain't going to do it.

No matter how much you use, even 10% by volume, hard to add even 1 octane, as they have already tricked up the fuel.

Toluene or p/m- xylene is the product that is most effective and least cost per real point increase if you buy in 55 gallon drums and just add 5%........1 gallon per tank full.

10% ethanol already adds 3-4 REAL points to basic gasoline, so you can see how bad the basic gasoline without ethanol really is!

"the F1 racers did not use 100% toluene, but 84%. The other 16% in their brew is n-heptane, which has an octane rating of zero. The reason for this strange combination is because the F1 rocket fuel was limited to the rules to being of 102 RON octane. The n-heptane is "filler" to make the fuel comply with the rules. At $5 per gallon [toluene] you can add 1 REAL point of octane for 25 cents per gallon of gasoline, using over the counter octane boosters would cost you $2-$3 per gallon of fuel upgraded.

You must test cheap [paint thinner grade] over the counter Toluene for soluable Silicon contamination which will destroy/degrade O2 sensors.........sometimes a problem sometimes not.

Why one buys 55 gallons with an analytical test certificate!

Those considering the purchase of 55 gallon drums should be aware that solvents are used in illegal drug production so read the following .....look up xylene and toluene and it's illegal uses!

Acetone reportedly changes the surface tension of the fuel. Seems to work better with fuel containing ethanol. Of course evidence I've seen is mostly antidotal
