hey, im gonna be heading to Memphis which is like 3 to 4 hrs away from me. i wanted to know if i could run 87 octane to get down there and have it be cheaper than running high test. i wouldnt be running the car hard or anything just cruising. will this hurt the engine with detontation or anything?

um, i wouldnt go any lower then 89 for just highway cuz theres no load on the engine, but at those speeds, depending on what kinda turbo your on u will still be in positive boost so dont, EVER, run 87.

Kind of off topic but, What power are you seeing with the gt35r? Have you run more boost through it? Are you using the stock exhaust mani, and what are you using for tuning? Thanks

hey, havent boosted past 8 (trying to get my mbc to work) anyways, i have a power fc and am waiting to buy injectors and get it tuned for around 400-450 horse. im using the stock manifold, welded a external flange for a tial wg.

what are you realy going to save by putting lower octane fuel. did you figure out what the savings would be. buy one cheap meal or somthing like that and treat your car to a nice high octane drink & it will all = out problem solved.

Saving a few bucks is definitely worth running your turbo engine on pisswater for a few hundred miles...

go to walmart and buy a few bottles of octane booster.. then go on the trip. from now on fill with 93, or 94.. dont want to **** your motor being cheap...

i dont really see the problem here. with pfc, pull a few degrees of timing and drive on 87. don't boost it up and keep an eye on the knock count and you should be fine. string out the rpms instead of loading up the motor

then again, like others are saying the price difference isnt significant enough to warrant doing this

the extra 3 or 4 bucks to fill up your tank with 91+ isn't going to kill you.

I plan on running 93 all the time. is it worth anything to add octane booster on top of that ?

What is this torulne...?

What do you guys think of me putting half a bottle of Seafoam in the oil and half in the gas tank with about 5 gallons of gas, today and let it run. I'm cranking for the 4th time tonight to let it get to operating temp, so I was thinking this would help clean the fuel and oil systems. I would change the oil again before I really drove it, which will be a week or two ?

I've used seafoam on several of my vehicles.

1/3 in the oil to clean things up inside, not really useful if you rebuilt the motor. You MUST MUST change the oil after 50 or so miles of driving as it breaks down the oil very fast.

1/3 in the gas tank to clean the injectors and fuel system.

1/3 through a vacuum line. Make sure its a line that feeds all cylinders, the brake booster is a good source. Pour it in and have someone push the gas pedal to keep the motor running because it will tend to die.

or just use your hand and move the throttle body butterfly yourself

also be sure not to pour too fast. hydrolocking = bad. just let the fluid be sipped by the engine.

its actualy called torulene but i cant spell worth a damn sometimes.its mainly used in brake cleaner and as a solevent (paint thinner), but it has a VERY high octane rating, so adding ~25% to your gas tank (of your gastan) you can theoreticaly raise the rating to 98-100 octane.look online for more info its been discussed in depth quite a bit.
