A solution to prevent octane ping; 2001 Frontier 2.4L; 120,000 miles:
Ignition @ 20 BTDC, NGK plugs,running plus grade fuel, always at same filling station.
Pings at lite throttle.

With that many miles on your truck you may have some excess carbon build up.Try running some Seafoam through the intake and see if that helps.Also be sure your EGR valve is operating correctly.

Ben, When I apply vacuum to the EGR, the engine stumbles, as expected, when vacuum is released, smoth idling returnd. Do you know of further testing for the EGR?
