I know that OBX makes the cheapest shortshifter for the 240sx, and that it would suit my destitute needs. I'm wondering if anyone has tried it, and if so, what they think of it...is it easy to install, does it shift better, are the throws significantly shorter, can you shift faster and etc. Also...How hard is it to install? After removing the shift knob (which I hear is a PIA to remove,) how would I go about getting into the "guts" ...(is it necessary to cut a hole in the shift boot all around that little square retainer?...I might end up doing that anyway, and replace the boot while I'm at it). Anyway folks, your opinions are appreciated

You don't have to cut your boot, you can just remove it. Installation is pretty straight forward. Throws are shorter, but not as short as some of the more expensive ones, quality is where the OBX is lacking. Its made out of two pieces instead of one like the other short shifters and it tends to snap. However, once it snaps you can glue it back together with something extremely high tensile and it will never come apart again. I know some people who have broken them just to reglue them so that it doesn't come apart at an in opportune time.

Thats that, any other questions?

thanks for the quick reply...what are some other higher quality (but under $200) short shifters? How much shorter are the high quality one's throws...much shorter, or only marginally... Do you hear a nice click from each gear? Will the OBX brake from normal driving conditions???? I heard somewhere that you miss shifts more frequently than if you had a regular shifter...is this true? ThanksMARC

You do miss more shifts but not due to any flaw of the shifter, due to flaws of the people using them. : ) A short shifter makes shifting faster but more difficult, which leads to less skilled drivers missing shifts. It takes a bit of getting used to. I would say the OBX unit is probably the best for the price, I can't remember the other ones prices but they're around 200 dollars, you may want to check into B&M shifters, C's, or NISMO. : )

I doubt the OBX would break from normal driving conditions. The distance completely depends on the shifter, but the high quality ones are better quality.

I have one, or atleast I think it's one. I orded it as an obx, it came as a one piece unit with the directions calling it "pilot motorsports" shifter. Either way I like it. Just make sure to grease up the ball part of the shifter real good.
