So, I just discovered Oblivion like a month ago. I know, it was always one of those games that I said I will buy when it goes on sale. SO my friend finally lends me her copy, 100 hours later, I am still not done with the game.

Just wanted to know, how many hours people logged on playing Oblivion? This way I don't feel such a dork, so I can be like....he played over 80 hours too.

the game rocks..cant wait to get the Shivering Isles.

Since I am a hardcore RPG guy, I couldnt really tell you Kendell. It IS an action RPG, and that tends to be more fun for the casual RPG player. I LOVE the game, and cant wait for another to come out. Its massive, and offers a lot of possibilities as far as player creation goes. Not only that, but there are an almost unlimited amount of ways to play the characters. It definitely is a must-buy for any gamer.

Is there a way to find out in game how many hours you have logged? I am just about to play CoD4 so I'm not going to pop in my Oblivion disk just to find out.

I'd say it's pretty RPG noob friendly. There are some good premade classes or you can make your own. You can really just treat it like an action game and be fine...the game gives plenty of hints to guide you when character building time comes around. But then there's also a decent amount of depth once you "catch on" as well.

There's a LOT to the game. I mean a LOT. I've put a lot of hours into it and I don't even have the expansion.

Thievery alone is a GREAT pass time. The Thieves' Guild Quests are a lot of fun and become pretty profitable.

The mistake I made was cheating (God mode...health and mana never decrease, you can carry an infinite amount, you can cast spells beyond your stats, etc.). Either pretend cheating is impossible in Oblivion (best bet) or wait until you're tiring of it (which should be a while). If you cheat, the game will get boring fast.

Beyond the full expansion, there are other small addons (some free, some cost a few bucks). Some of them are well worth it, like the ones that give you NICE homes for free (as far as in-game costs go, those addons aren't free though). Others are useless, like the Horse Armor.

Dangit, now you've got me wanting to play it again. I already lack enough time to play all the games I'm trying to play right now anyway.

duly noted. i used to be terrible about cheating, but my ps3 has pretty much broken me of it, almost, since cheating is pretty much out of next gen games.

thanks for the input as soon as i have the money i'm buying it

lol, profiles are a wonderful thing as long as people fill them out. It's too bad I dont have a PS3 and you dont have a 360 (presumably) but sooner or later I will have a PS3 as well and we can play together.

Speak of the devil MoD, you and I have to play again soon. Up for some CoD4 or GTA4?

Sounds good to me. I don't actually have CoD4, but I can always steal it from my roommate when he's not looking. He'll probably be too busy playing WoW to notice anyway.

Yeah i love this game too.I really need to start playing it again.

btw.... http://www.tesnexus.com Your best friend.Go there download mods. Have funI was cleaning stuff off my computer yesterday, found 3.5GB of installers for mods i've put into my oblivion game!!! MUST HAVE Mods - Read up on these first. If you have installation problems.. i'm not helping (sorry).OBSE - Oblivion scrip extender - needed for most mods.OBMM - Oblivion mod manager - makes modding easier.Kobus character advancement - stats level with your skills. Skips that stupid x5 leveling.Obscuro's Oblivion Overhaul - changes so much and adds so much. Completely different game once you install this.

off the top of my head that's it. just look at the nexus and start modding.

The GF has been playing here and there since we got it. It was one of the first games she got. She's still not even close to done. Admittedly, she doesn't play it regularly, but will get into spurts where she wil play for about a week and then take another break.

yeah, depending on how my check comes out will determine if i go new or used. the local gamestop is usually pretty good about having like new quality used games, but if the price difference isnt but a few dollars i'll just buy new like the OCD person i am.. hopefully i'll be tearing up the plains of tamriel by the end of next week

I haven't touched Oblivion in a long time. I think I had about 50+ hours clocked in it before I got bored. I had done all the fighters guild stuff and I had closed about 3 or 4 oblivion gates.

Sometimes I think of picking the game back up, but if I do, it won't be on a pre-made class. The premies are too diversified, and I found my character lacking punch after a while.

If you can get your head around custom classes, the game is a blast to play.

Yeah, I hardly ever use the premades. They're very narrow. Especially considering the powerhouses you can make as custom classes.

Hmmmm...I read through the details on the OOO mod. There's a lot I like, but a lot I don't. I think there's enough I don't like that I'd rather not use it. If only it was modular...

^ actually OOO is quite modular.Just load up OBMM, if you don't like OOO turn it off!I found it makes it fairly difficult to start the game(difficulty scaling and spawn numbers make it harder for low level chars), but once your going it's WAY more fun.On the leveling note even though i mentioned it before, I LOVE the KOBU leveling mod, because shooting for the x5 stat leveling just killed the fun of the game. You had to pay attention to your skills to try to get the most from everything. with kobus just play and have fun.

also DO NOT TRY TO COMBINE OOO AND THE ADRENALINE MOD!!!! Adrenaline is a mod that does 3-4x for all spawns, coupled with the increased spawns of OOO this is deadly! It's fine in the sewers where it's just rats and crabs and weak goblins, but try fighting 8-12 trolls at once, or vamps, or worse!!!!

I've put 170 hours into mine. And now I just restarted!

I usually HATE RPG's, but this one I loved. I still haven't solved all the quests. Seriously a must buy.

this is a game that you devote so much time to and once your game gets messed up you dont feel like restarting for quite some time. my gf will hate me if i start playing this again which i think i will when i get home later.

there is.... mods!! Some of it's WAY unbalanced, but with the right mods you can get some amazing stuff.

ie, with OOO installed in one of the ruins you find an enchanted vampire slaying blade that has been cursed by a vampire lord. Initially it's just a 2 handed katana thing. Kill 10 vamps the vampiric curse is removed and it gains the ability to cause fire damage BUT this sword weighs nothing and has no charge, so it's CONSTANT.Keep killing vamps, once you kill 100, the attack power of the sword increases, the fire damage increases, and it gains the ability to use the power of a recently killed vampire to cure you of the vampire disease. I've almost gotten 200 with it, so we'll see what happens then.I REALLY need to play this game again and finish it... but TF2 kinda has me caught at the moment.

I had Oblivion and like Bioshock it's a fun, large game that allows you to pretty much play how you like, but for some reason, also like Bioshock I find it hard to bring myself to put Oblivion back in after the initial excitement wore off. The problem with Oblivion IMO is that it is too expansive. I don't consider myself a casual gamer in the least but my life as it is now dictates that I only spend 30 or 40 minutes daily playing games and there are plenty of other games that will provide much more bang for my 30 minute buck. If you pick it up devote yourself to it because that is the only way you'll stay motivated to play it.

Yea oblivion was a good game, i never finished it though, i just got to annoyed with the npc leveling system, as you level they level too, you'll be level 12 and a wild boar will come and kill you lol. the developers said they made it like that so that you wont become a walking god, but dammit i loved killing things in 1 hit in morrowind!

Being unstoppable is the one of the major appeals of RPG's for me. You get your *** kicked for the majority of the game, I think it's fair that you get to do some of your own towards the end.

I played about 80 hours...did all the guilds (Dark Brotherhood FTW!!). After I "beat" the game, I kind-of lost interest. I guess I just like the idea of an ending.

I have mixed feelings on item duplication...it sort-of made the game too easy.

Due to this thread i started playing again.Didn't realize it but somewhere in all my mods it added like 12 new races, Skyrim Khajit(Think siberian tiger), monkey people, couple different kinds of elves, some other slightly human looking characters.Pretty cool stuff.Didn't realize how much fun i actually had with this game.

Why did i open this post? You guys are making me want to play it again, and that can only end with my death (by my wife). Decisions, decisions...

I think i had about 110 hours and about 80% of all the quests complete. Dark Brother hood rules by the way.

^ you know what's sad is that i usually don't finish the quests. I prefer just running around and adventuring, which is why i really like these types of games.

Shameless plug, Bethesda + fallout series = Fallout 3 AWESOMENESS!!!!
