I have a 95' 240sx manufactured in 9/94. Can anyone tellme if it is OBDII? I've called a couple of Nissan dealershipsbut none could help.

Your system is an OBD I system Nissan was a little late in swiching to OBD II as a general rule though most autos manufactured prior to 1995 were OBD I . Nissan went to OBD II in about 1997 There were a few in models with it in 1996 . Hope this helps

Production date of my car is 9/95, its obd2. Every 96+ car is obd2, federaly mandated.

Thats funny I own a 8 of 96 Nissan hardbody and it is most definitely OBD I . In fact I just look up your car on my Genisis and it is OBD I. and Nissan kept OBD I on the 240SX till the end off production in 98. I guess nissan didn't the memo . I know this for 2 reasons OBD II has a universal OBD II connector that is the same on all OBD II systems. OBD I are manufacture specific.

OK, now I'm confused. The guys @ 240sx motoring say they startedputting in OBD II in the middle of the 95' model. This true? I wannaput in a turbo and need to know.

Federal law required all model year '96 cars to be OBD II (this includes the 240sx and all other Nissans). There are no full production cars sold in the US that this did not apply to. A few models went to OBD II in '94 (mainly Toyota's) and then a few GM's and Fords in '95.

A rule that was broken on a few cars (and still is on many new BMW's, MB's, and a few others) is the location of the connector. According to SAE standards, the connector must be in the driver’s foot well and must not be hidden behind any panels or require tools to access.

I'd not heard the footwell as a requirement before, only the "within 3 feet of the steering wheel" as on that site. Of course, on a Mercedes, I think that'd make it anyplace between the doors if you measure from the rim.

Specifically, the connector must be between the left end of the instrument panel and a position no more than 300 mm to the right of the center of the instrument panel....So basically the driver's footwell.

The only cars which I have found the connector not in the driver’s footwell (I work in an emissions testing center so I see everything) are the previous generation Acura TL, the 96-97 Thunderbirds/Cougars, and the first generation Honda CV-R.

ok so if i already know where my connector is, and ive pulled codes using an actron digital scanner, then this means i can be sure whether my 240sx is obdI or II?

the connectors are different right? so i just have to head over to AAP and look at the scanner? cuz ive been wondering lol, im planning on some fuel management myself.
