So after spending $100 at the dealership for them to just 'reset' the code, about a month later the 'check engine' service light came on again. I had this auto place check the code for free but they recommend that I head to the dealership because there could have been a chance I was still under warranty. But no.. I was a month too late. I'll check and make sure the gas cap is on tight but I wanted to invest in a OBDII Scanner. I looks at a lot of the most popular models and searched the reviews for 'nissan' but there hasn't really been any newer models that reviewers have stated that worked. Any Suggestions? Thanks.

I'm hoping this one will work: http://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-Blu ... 825&sr=1-2

I ordered the small bluetooth OBD Scan ELM 327 that ImStricken has, paid around $12 for it on ebay, it should be arriving soon (thanks by the way ImStricken for the recommendation in another thread).

I have an ongoing (3+ year) issue with strong rotten egg smell from under the vehicle, presumably from the cat or pre-cat converter. The dealership is clueless or unwilling to give much effort beyond asking "what type of gas do you use?", so I wanted to check and monitor the combustion and exhaust sensors myself, and of course check for codes. I'm still not sure if there can be certain codes stored in the ECU that don't trigger a MIL/check engine light, but I intend to find out and won't be spening $100 bucks at the dealership just for a quick diagnostic check.

Imstricken, this little unit comes with several software programs, which one do you recommend? Thanks!

Is this the same one?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0084Y ... d_i=507846
1.General setup for bluetooth is: enable bluetooth, scan the (ELM327) device, pair it with host, connect.
2. For android cell phone, choose shops and search for torgue, choose install and wait a while the torgue s/w will be installed on your phone under application
3. Plug in elm327. From left to right there are 3 LEDs: power/red, OBD/grn nd PC/yel. You may or may not need to start engine, and key shall be on.
3. On your phone enable bluetooth under wireless, scan it and you shall see a device OBDII added. Press its icon and input passwd 1234(or 0000, or 6789) the status would be paired but not connected, that's normal.
4. Run torgue, top line will show status and you will be connected. top right will have 3 blue icons inc a car icon on the right.
4.1. There are 7-8 pages one can add/move/delete display/gauge(s). Originally only page 4 has display
4.2. To change/scroll page, scratch the screen to left/right(if cellphone in portrait view) or up/down(if cellphone in landscape view)
4.3. To pop up main menu, touch and hold down on an empty point of a page, choose add a display, choose the size, then item (say O2 sensor)
4.4 Touch and hold down on a display/gauge can pop up a sub-menu, so one can delete or move the gauge
4.5. Press left button (there are only 3 buttons on android phone) to pop up 6 touch keys, press upper-left key `action' to pop up a sub-menu, then show/delete OBDII error code.
5. TO connect PC with ELM327, install s/w on the CD: BlueSoleil to map bluetooth to a serial port, then scantool_net113win with option of COM6 and 9600 baud. I tested it on my D620 and it works fine, yet for scan pls use "by name" and type in OBDII.

I got a simple read/erase one from Costco for about $20 but it's not an item they always have stocked, at least at my store.

hey buddy, glad to see you ordered it. this thing is really cool.

the cd that comes with it, is filled with a bunch of junk (at least mine was). i only could use two programs from it: OBD-DIAG & ScanTool.net for windows

otherwise you can use an array of android apps. (iphones & ipods wont connect to this bluetooth, because apple is lame and blocks it.)
