So my car died on me, i'm not getting any power to the fuel pump, so i go and change out the fuel pump, crank position sensors, test the fuses, relays, change those out, still not getting any power, i havent checked the cam shaft sensors yet though. I decided to goto Auto Zone today and get a obd ii scanner and when i hook it up to my car, it keeps saying cannot connect to the computer, error and error.. I am wondering if my ECM is going out in my car. I can crank it all day long but it's not turning over, just keeps cranking, is there anyway to tell if your ECM is going out in it.?

It's always a good idea to isolate the problem by checking for codes (or communication problem) before replacing components. Looks like you have already spent a fortune yet the problem persists.

Did you follow the instructions on how to use the scanner? If so and it can't communicate with the ECM, either it's incompatible or the ECM is 'dead.' You should be able to rent/borrow another scanner from Autozone. A faulty (shorted) IACV and/or faulty electronic engine mount (available in some cars) can 'fry' the ECM so make sure you check those components before replacing the ECM. After the ECM replacement, it has to be taken to a dealership for reprogramming. Otherwise, you cannot start the car.

I really didnt spend that much money and whatnot, i'm just happy i had my money saved up for something like this to be honest. I didnt think about that scanner because 3 hours prior to driving my car, no check engine light came up or anything, guess that was my wrong doing.
