I bought a 1996 Nissan 240sx automatic with 105k miles. Ran the OBD2 scanner and found out that the crank angle sensor and the knock sensor were bad so I replaced them. I went ahead and also replaced the oxygen sensor with a O.E. type by AC Delco. I reset the ecu with the scanner and started the car. CEL/MIL light comes on, code reads p0130. I reset it again and the o2 and catalyst sensor stays in not ready status without any code or CEL/MIL. Driven the car through 3 gas tanks already yet it stays in not ready status. Replaced the o2 again with a Bosch universal 4 wire, which constantly threw a CEL/MIL p0130 and the car bogged badly under 3k rpm. I constantly reset the ecu and the code p0130 kept coming up. So I replaced it again with O.E. Bosch and the car ran great, no code BUT system stays in not ready status for the o2 and the catalyst. I've taken apart the wiring harness and the wires are perfect all the way to the ecu. I've tested the o2 sensor with my multimeter and the signal is there. I've driven the car through the special Nissan drive cycle TWICE and the o2 and catalyst still will not go to ready status. It does however go to ready status if I use the Bosch 4 wire universal BUT I also get the code and bogged driving under 3k rpm. I've even had my mass air flow sensor replaced, checked for vacuum leaks, fully tuned up this car with new plugs, wires, cap, etc. It runs great but this system not ready status is frustrating. I can't get the car smogged because the smog station won't smog it until that sensor goes to ready. Anyone heard or had this problem? I've read that 1996/1997 Nissans had system readiness issues.
