silly question. I have a 95 S14 with a KA. Having some fuel delivery issue, P0170 (fuel trim malfunction). How do i tell if its OBD1 or 2? Ive heard they are all OBD2, and ive heard some are 1 and some are 2, due to the transition year.

Look for your OBD plug. OBD1 and OBD2 should look different, you can compare it to pictures you find online.

Do you mean the plug for ECU to scan tool? It takes an OBD2 scan tool (code reader) but ive been told if i have 1 O2 sensor its OBD1, if I have 2, then OBD2. Help. I am a bit confused, my ECU takes a OBD2 code reader but i dont see another a O2 sensor. I have 1 O2 in the manifold but thats the only one, besides a AEM wide band in a test pipe, using as read only, to the UEGO gauge. Trying to troubleshoot P0170. MAF has been cleaned. O2 sensor reads .1 VDC at idle, .9 VDC at about 4K RPM. I can hear a vacuum leak wich I have read can cause this code, but I cannot locate. Also, I have always had a problem with the #3 spark plug wire coming up a bit off the valve cover, seems to not seat well on the plug, regardless of wich plug or wire I have used (swapped). I have swapped plugs and wires but no matter what, number 3 always back off. I have a new head (remanufactured less than 10 K miles) Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think they'd use an OBD2 plug for an OBD1 car, but I'm no OBD expert.

If you have a vacuum leak, spray some soapy water on your lines with the car running and see if you can find the source of the leak.

The 1 in the manifold has 1 wire. Cant find another one. But that would mean its OBD1, with a OBD2 ecu? That wouldnt make sense like razi says. So I dunno, thanks for helping out. Have to remove manifold to find vacuum leak. Grrrr at least I can split the mani in half. I never put studs in cyl head when i got it. Just for an event like this. Used stainless allen heads everywhere wen the engine was rebuilt. I would recomend that. It makes things alot easier and it looks good.
