OBD ll port not linking

Hello, I'm new to this forum, and to Nissan. If this has been discussed I'm sorry, but I can't find an answer to my querry. I have a generic scanner ( Actron ) I think is the brand. I tried to hook up with the diagnostic port, but I keep getting the message "problem linking".I called the Auto Zone where I bought the scanner, and was told the scanner should connect with this 05 Sentra. I haven't brought it over to have them try another scanner. My light isn't on, but I hooked it up to my neighbor's car, and it worked OK. I just wanted to see if it would work with my Nissan while I had it out in the driveway.

I'm not terribly familiar with OBDII scanners, but you may want to see if there's some sort of settings since codes can vary from manufacturer to manufacturer.

i did soem reading an dit should work, was the scanner nib? mayeb take it back and show them it doesn't work and ask for another one.i got the J100 from Ebay and its awesome, works on my buddies Versa as well and my gf's sis's Civic to.

I work for autozone as a Manager.

here is 2 problems with what your doing.

1) Car must have key in the ON position but car must be OFF.

2) The scanner will only read codes for the Check Engine Light. If the Light is not ON, It will not connect.

Hello, Thanks for the replies. I like this site. Autozone manager..I had the key on, but the cel wasn't on. I thought I would get a readout like all systems normal, or something like that. Good to hear it might not be connecting because no codes to retrieve. OK live, and learn then.
