So, if you read my thread in the general chat forum, you know my motor in my '96 is possibly toast. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's just the head, but in case the whole thing has to be replaced, I've already started the hunt for another engine.

I found an engine out of a '95 with only 46k miles on it for $750 at a local junkyard here. So my questions are as follows:

1. Is this a reasonble price? Seems a bit high to me, perhaps, but 46k miles isn't much at all...

2. How much of a pain in the butt would it be to put an OBD-I engine into a car set up for OBD-II? Would the wiring harness and ECU have to be swapped out? It seems to me that if anything, the harness for an OBD-II car would just be left with excess sensors and such, so logic points that I should be able to use the same one. Changing the ECU I assume I'd have to do.

Input is appreciated. I really need to get my car back on the road ASAP once I find out what all is wrong with it (I should know Monday). Hell, it's practically a '95 anyway, what with my front grill and the fact it was built in October of '95, I may as well have a '95 motor. :pface

Thanks ya'll.

That does sound a bit high, but the mileage *is* nice. I would think that somewhere in the $400-500 range would be appropriate, but perhaps I'm mistaken.

You might want to find out if any shops in your area do SR swaps...they might have a KA or two on premises and maybe you could get a slightly better deal.

That's a good idea...I'll call around tomorrow. Thanks.

I'm also pretty friendly with the owner of said junkyard with the '95 engine...I was kind of hoping he might be willing to work something out with me. We'll see.

Can the owner guarantee that the '95 is going to be a healthy engine?

I suppose $750 might not be bad if you can be sure that the engine's gonna run like a champ.

Anyway, don't get too far ahead of yourself. Maybe you won't need to get the new engine. Good luck.

The only issues that will come up are related to keeping the OBDII ECU.

There are differences like the 02 sensor readout and the TPS readout between the 95 and 96 motors.
