Hi, I just joined your forum and would like to say hi to everyone.

I'd also like to thank gloucesterq for recommending you.

Anyway, I just bought a 97 Pathfinder to replace my old 88 Pathfinder, got it inspected and it has failed the emissions test. The OBD has reported a not ready condition. I spoke with the tester and he said that if the battery has been disconnected, the OBD has to run for 3 days/50 miles to go to the ready condition. I have not disconnected the battery and have driven it more than 50 miles since I bought it, so I don't think this is the problem. I also verified the battery was good.

No error codes were stored either.

Any ideas why the OBD would keep returning not ready? I also noticed the check engine light never comes on when you start it. My mechanic thinks that a bad bulb would cause the not ready condition but is not sure. He also verified that the OBD is receiving power since he can communicate to it.

Thanks for your help, and again hello to everyone.

not ready condition means not ready to test. this can be a result of your driving habits. it can also take more than 50 miles/3 days to test. you have to drive it like a grandma a lot. long slow periods of gentle accelleration and deceleration are good. after all tests are done it will eventually say everything is cool or set a code. things that will keep it from testing are too much throttle, part failure(will set code), and stuff like that. it also wont test unless the vehicle is fully warmed up(like 5 min idling would do fine). it is fairly common for r50 pathfinders with the vg engine to not test as the engine usually requires a fairly large amount of throttle just to satisfy most peoples acceleration requirements.
