I have a 1996 240sx SE to start off. About two days ago the CEL came on. I have tried three different scanners and nothing. I have since googled "dead OBD II port" and one of the answers said that the circuit running the OBD II port may also run the cig lighter, clock, etc.

The cig lighter works. The clock doesnt. The memory wire for the radio does not either.

Please, I need help ASAP!!

Have you checked for bad fuses and replaced the bad ones? Any broken wires running to the connector? You don't have OBD II by the way, you have OBD I.

yeah I have checked all fuses. None needed replacing.

Then why do I have an OBD II port? And how have I scanned it with an OBD II reader?

I thought that all cars 96 and up were OBD II. Even some of the 95's

Fixed! I traced the cig lighter wires back and found that the wire was cut. So I soldered back together. Took it to murrays and the OBD II scanner FINALLY worked. It was the fuel pressure metering code. I think my brother filled her up with the car running or something. So I cleared it.

But why would it be obd I? I have found a random connector behind the dash. IDK if that is an OBD I connector. But I do have an OBD II port and have scanned it numerous times through that.
