Friends, it's not wise to pull up famous people's accounts at work. Trust me, the folks in Info Security can typically track what you do on the company's system.

WASHINGTON — Verizon Wireless on Friday fired an unspecified number of employees it said had accessed President-elect Barack Obama's old cell phone records without permission.

The firings ended an internal investigation into the matter. Verizon Wireless earlier had disclosed the privacy breach and apologized to Obama. Obama aides had said no voice mails or e-mails were accessed.

Verizon Wireless chief executive Lowell McAdam had said Obama's account has been inactive for several months. Obama had been using a simple voice flip-phone without e-mail capabilities.

They should be more than fired. If the employees names have not been given to the media they should be. All their phone and text traffic published too, see how they like it. I really dislike Obama but I expect the same privacy for him I would demand for myself. There are some lines that shouldn't be crossed.

Ohio inspector General Tom Charles' office launched an investigation based up on allegations that state officials improperly accessed and distributed confidential state records related to Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher a.k.a. "Joe the Plumber," after he was thrust into the spotlight as the topic of conversation in the third presidential debate Oct. 15, 2008.

The report determined there were 18 separate records checks conducted on Wrzelbacher following the Oct. 15, 2008, presidential debate.
But hey, I thought it was only the Bush Administration snooping into the lives of private individuals and using ill gotten information against innocent people?

You mean the Democrats aren't as pious as they make themselves out to be?

They were justified to check into "Joe the Plumber" (just ask them) whereas the scum who hacked Obama's phone must have been Republican sympathizers and should be put on death row.

Remember, when the republicans tap the phones of terror suspects, it's an invasion of privacy. When a democratic Senator's son hacks a republican's email, it's the people's right to know.

^ I dont know the circumstances of what youre suggesting. If the senator's son claim is true, I'll simply say he's a criminal and should be punished. But that doesnt excuse what Dubya did. He tapped not only known terrorists, but also 'suspected' terrorlst without a warrant. The absense of a warrant is where the problem lies. No one has a problem with monitoring terrorists.

You guys, how did the Dems vs Reps get in this thread? Who said Joe's hackers were Dems and Obama's hackers were Reps? I dont care who is invading the rights of private citizens, its wrong. Drop the partisan naming calling please. Its not constructive.

If these were simply jokes I didnt recognize, then I apologize for this post.

yes those that hounded Joe were dems. Those that did this to Obama were likely just garden variety idiots. It doesn't make it ok if they did it for stupidity rather than a political agenda though; it's still wrong.

Wasn't so much a joke as an editorial. Everyone does the same things, but the side you're on determines whether it's right or wrong. It's not just reps and dems, we villanized the U.S.S.R. for putting missiles in Cuba when we were putting them in Europe, we slander Iran for spying while we spy on Iran, it just goes on.

I seem to remember back during the Republican and Democrat Primaries, there was an incident at the State Department where Hillary's and McCain's passport information were accessed by employees. Hillary's was pulled up during a new employee training class and McCain's by some employees. I know we have famous people in our system and I know that I am smart enough not to pull up their information...

Comparing broad scale illegal wiretapping of millions of people to the limited actions of a few individuals against one other individual is asinine.

All were in the wrong, but it's apples and oranges.

No it is not. Both were invasions of people's privacy. The size and scope is irrelevant. Both cases were one party, seeking the private information of another, to suit their own cause.

WOW thanks for telling me that.. Not like I dont have problems with the Patriot Act and our government side stepping FISA or anything. /end Sarcasm

What the State of Ohio and the News Media did to Joe the Plumber is far worse than what Obama, McCain and Hillary had done to them. Because he dared to ask a question that the 'Great One' couldn't answer and the media and the state went after him with all of their resources. That is Liberty in action!

I'm sure the digging always goes on and we only hear about the dirt diggers that get caught. There is almost zero integrity in either major party these days.

So it's not wrong until you do it to more than one person at a time?

Only after he was attacked by everyone and their brother, when it made its way across the National Media.
