Are you kidding me?

Before the airing of Leno tonight, NBC releases clips of his appearance. EXCEPT FOR the one where he is talking about his lousy bowling score at the bowling alley in the white house where he levels a derogatory comment about the Special Olympics.

YES, this is your president!! I think this speaks for itself, folks.

I did what I could, he was elected against my efforts. Just do like me, sit back and watch amateur hour and see how the libs try to blame Bush for four years.

I read some of the comments there and I see a lot of partisan rhetoric. surprize, it's politics!

Obama screwed up, again. It was wrong and insensitive but he made a mistake, we have all done that. I put proper emphasis on the comment.

He will be protected by the media as much as they can, Bush would have been lambasted. That bothers me more because it shows the media slant.

What bothers me most is Obama's ceaseless campaigning. Every time he fires up the big bird and jets off to a pie eating contest in deersnot nebraska it costs us, the taxpayers, money; in a time when we cannot afford to mis-spend a dime. Turn off the NCAA championship, put the bowling ball back in the bag, quit having parties every 15 minutes with huge expense to rack up, Sit your a** in the chair and do YOUR FRIGGIN JOB! You are the president now, get to work and fix things like you said you would. I feel bad for the people who voted for you. I expected this crap but your faithful followers who bought your BS and drank the fruit punch are going to start feeling a bit lightheaded and I am worried about what they are going to do when the realize what they have done by putting you in the big chair.

People focusing on this Special Olympics comment are being ridiculous. It was a joke, he was on the Tonight Show, you make jokes on the Tonight Show.

I realize that if Bush had made the same joke he would've caught hell, but I think that would be wrong too. People take shxt too seriously, chill out.

Now, should he have gone on the Tonight Show instead of, say, the CBS Evening News or something? I would've erred on the side of a more serious program, but the joke was a joke and anyone who's making a big deal out of it is a toolbag.

If you want to rip on The President, he's screwing up plenty of *material* things right now, no need to focus on this idiocy. If McCain had been elected and made the same remark, the GOP'ers would be telling everyone to shrug it off.

ANY man or woman in that position should be held to the very highest standard and not insult or demean ANYONE. If he is capable of this in an off-the-cuff chuckle in front of millions, he is far worse otherwise.

Let's face it. He is still campaigning while Pelosi and Reed are champagne-ing. Get off the damn "I'm a celebrity now and better than anyone" trail and the friggin NCAA hoops brackets AND DO YOUR JOB!!!

Okay Hash I'm calling you out on this one.

I have friends who are disabled and they dream of doing things like bowling, running in the Olympics, playing Basketball and all the kind of stuff we take for granted every day. The Special Olympics gives them something to look forward to and dream about so that they can do the best with what they have. A few of these disabled people really look up to Obama because they think he has their best interest at heart when he talks about healthcare reform and that type of thing. There have been big movements towards discrimination against the disabled and it is becoming something looked down upon in our society. So for Obama to make a comment like that is appalling because he is supposed to be on their side.

You make jokes on the Tonight Show, yes. But jokes about the disabled while you are the president, no.

Now if he made a joke about an Emo kid that might be funny because they chose to be like they are.

Quote »I realize that if Bush had made the same joke he would've caught hell, but I think that would be wrong too. People take shxt too seriously, chill out.
I agree with you here. People really should chill out. . . but jokes about the disabled. . . come on. . . That's pretty low.

Quote ». . . anyone who's making a big deal out of it is a toolbag.
Again, discriminating against the disabled is the same as discriminating against race and if Obama would have made a racial joke about white guys he would have gotten even more hell. Or would he? Damn. We live in a screwed up world.

I would be giving Wing Feather the same sermon here if he defended McCain in such a manner after such a joke

You do that. Color me "called out".
dusred wrote:I agree with you here. People really should chill out. . . but jokes about the disabled. . . come on. . . That's pretty low.
I make jokes about dead babies, the holocaust, and other such hilarious subjects. People need to learn to realize that you can joke about ANYTHING and, so long as you're not being serious, it doesn't make you a bad person.

Admittedly, the President telling a holocaust joke probably wouldn't be a good idea. Hell, him making THIS comment wasn't a good idea either, but that doesn't mean it offended me.

Anyone who is offended by anything that is meant in jest, ever, is a weenie. No exceptions.
dusred wrote:Again, discriminating against the disabled is the same as discriminating against race and if Obama would have made a racial joke about white guys he would have gotten even more hell. Or would he? Damn. We live in a screwed up world.
Again, joking isn't discriminating. Show me where he discriminated.
dusred wrote:I doubt it. I would be giving Wing Feather the same sermon here if he defended McCain in such a manner after such a joke
And I'd be harassing you on that sermon too.

YES, it was a dumb thing to say, but only for political reasons, because there are weenies out there who take things too seriously. He DOES, unfortunately, have to craft his words to please these weenies, but that doesn't mean I think he deserves to get blasted over something that was just an innocent comment. It's not like he'd thought it up before the show, he didn't know he was going to be talking about bowling. It was just a slipped comment. Relax or GTFO.

I must be a terrible person, because i thought that picture story was hillarrious.

I too have a person who im relatively close to who competes in the Special Olympics. At first after reading this its like damn thats pretty bad, but i mean the guys tryen so hard to be funny and likeable, hes bound to slip up here and there. Like said previously in this thread, hes on the tonight show, trying to make jokes. As tasteless as it was, it was, just simply a joke.

Non issue IMO.

Obama was being anal and unpolicitically incorrect.

Why is mentioning special olympics as a self diss even considered a shocking moment?

When you are the leader of the free world? Are you seriously NOT clued into why a person in a position like that must be careful?

If Leno had said that there would have been some protest, certainly not as much but likely because he is not the President of the United States.

Wow, if that is the worst thing that Obama did in his first four years he will have no trouble getting reelected in 2012.

You guys need to lighten up. The Tonight show gets over 20 million viewers compared to a small fraction of the evening network new shows.

For those that listen to Howard Stern he has been goofing on the handicaped for years. How many other entertainers would hire someone who stutters? He has given many other handicapped careers by goofing around and making jokes.

Obamas remark was a non event in my opinion.

So, cliffs notes

You make a silly irrelevent comment

I call you on it

You make a new silly irrelevent comment

You then suggest the victimized party doesn't matter because they cannot fight back.

I point out the rediculous nature of that response

You then suggest you don't care, to sheild yourself from the fact that you have been shut down

I point out the transparent nature of that tactic

You make a lame attempt at poetry

creative and artsy but still a failure, thanks for playing though.

We have already established you don't give a s*** what he said and if you read my post correctly that I barely give a s***, two facts that are indisputable becuase they are our statements of how we were impacted by it; you, not at all, me, very little. You have yet to confront though the issue that it was not good to say and that is the dispute here.
