O2 Sensors

Hello, I had to replace a rear oxygen sensor last month on my '01 QX4 (95,000KM). The other day, my "Service Engine Soon" light came on again. Local shop pulled the code and they said the mainstream oxygen sensors were showing a "slow response". They cleared the code, but the light came back on the next day.

Does this mean I'm going to have to replace these sensors as well?I know a fair bit about cars, but not a whole lot about O2 sensors, so any help/advice would be appreciated.

Some people simply replace all four sensors when one goes, they tend to go at around the same time. NTK generic sensors work fine if you want to install them yourself and can solder wiring. ($30 each or so)

So that's $30 for each sensor and then you just have to cut the wires and rewire for your old plug? Is that correct? I just paid $95 for a right rear O2 sensor but am still having problems. Sounds like I'll need to replace the other three but not at $95 each!

It cost me $95 to have my ECM reprogramed so as not to burn out the newly installed sensor. I understand this to be a common problem for this year.

And here I thought ECU reprogramming was supposed to be a free service, after all, it fixes the existing problems they gave you to begin with. What a crock.

It is a crock of $hit and they justified it by doing an hour's worth of "diagnostics" before they reprogrammed the ECU. They did tell me my MAF was bad. I bought some cleaner and cleaned the crap out of it. I'll see tomorrow how well that worked. Otherwise I'll try your Maxima MAF solution.

You were ripped off re: reprogramming the computer. Like you said, that hours' worth of diagnostics was pure B.S. Nissan knows about the reprogram, and has a bulletin on it. It should have been free.As for the O2 sensor failure, it's a common problem. If one goes, the other is sure to follow. Happened to me too. However, from what I can tell, it seems in a majority of cases, it's only the 2 rear sensors that fail. Replace them both, and you should be OK.
