OK Do you guys have any tips for getting the o2 sensor out? I'm looking down at that thing and wondering how the heck i'm going to get on it to turn it.

I went and got an O2 sensor socket but the SR o2 sensor is really small so i returned the socket. Does nissan have a socket for it?

Thanks

Ya there is a socket for it, but I have always been able to get them on and off with a box wrench or a crescent wrench. Is the one your taking off bad?

it sure is... i may just cut the wires and put a socket on there... I'm afraid i won't be able to get on it good enough with a box end wrench. It's way way way down there...

use vise grips, that's how I always did mine. OR just an open end wrench.

I just did my o2 and I cut the wires off at the o2 sensor and used a deep well socket I think it was a 19mm or 17mm and it came right out. I tried using open ends and ended up with nothing but cuts and gashes

I think it was a 19mm open end wrench I used, but the damn thing was rusted in there and torqued really high... I ended up putting a rag over the wrench and hammering it out (good thing the threads are still ok)

OK it wasn't as bad as i thought.

I broke off the old one cause my socket wasn't deep enough ( i had deep ones but they didn't quite make it). I just took the straight end of a pry bar and set it mostly on top of the sensor with the nail-removal part where it would bite into the very top of the sensor... Then i hit it with my favorite hammer about 3 times and it broke off.

Then i grabbed the 17mm socket and one quick twist had that thing off there. I had the socket then a long wobbly<sp> extension (not a universal joint type but the kind that the socket can wobble<sp> on) and then a short straight extension. It broke loose easily.

I tightened the new one with a stubby open end wrench...

Thanks for the insights guys

Oah and about it having the wrong connector. I just took the pins out of the 87 300zx plug and slid them into my sr20 plug.

You already got it off, but FYI. The proper tool to use is a 17mm "stubby" combination wrench). You can easily get it between the exhaust manifold and you can also get over the wires without cutting them to remove the old one and install the new one.
