I have a 2000 I30 with 106k. It is having a lot of trouble shifting into overdrive especially when I really need to accelerate. Most times I get stuck going about 50-60 mph but my rpm's are up around 4-5k. Can anyone tell me if this is a sign of bad o2 sensors or the mass air flow sensor?

Thanks for your help

Does it shift normally into other gears, even if you drive it a bit harder than normal or easier than normal?

MAF failure normally locks you into limp-home mode with a 2500rpm fuel-cut, so I doubt that's it.

Check engine light is on. It ususally stays on for a few days and then will turn off for a few days

I found the box but it doesn't have the set screw as seen in your picture. I took the covers off both sides (driver and passenger) and there's no screw to adjust.

At 50-60 mph u should be turning about 2000 RPMS

5k-6k man are u winding it up tight!

Sound like a transmission issue

is "sluggishness" a sign of a transmission problem as well? When I go to accelerate on to freeway, not only does it have a hard time shifting but I experience a loss of power. That's what was leading me to o2 sensor or MAF. I did not think a problem in my transmission would lead to loss of power.

Also, would a transmission problem cause the check engine light to come on?

Any help would be appreciated

I don't believe the method for pulling codes, posted above, works for the 2k Maxima. Go to your nearest Autozone or big retail parts dealer and get the code read for free. Post back what the code was, and I'm pretty sure we'll be able to help you out.

If it was a trans code, the O/D light would flash. The CEL indicates that you have a problem with the fuel, engine, or exhaust system.
