Initially I was getting code P0159 (bank 2 sensor 2). So I buy two sensors following the advise of the board. Replaced the bad sensor, CEL still on. I figure I'd give it a day or two to go out. Week later CEL still on. Pulled the codes today: P0140, P0159 and P0158. So I decided to take out the the Bank 2 sensor and replace it with the other new one and replace old Bank 1 sensor with the one from bank 2....Result: same codes (P0140, P0159 and P0158)Whyyy...whyyyI give up my seat to the elderly on the train...I say please and thank you.Come to think of it, I don't pay tithes...think it's a scam...wonder if that has anything to do with it? Naw.What do you guys suggest...about the O2 sensor situation? Thanks.

Haven't posted about it yet, but I just finished an extended bout of this with our 01 Q. Fortunately, we have a great dealer service department in our area that was willing to put the time into figuring out what was going on. The issue with our Q, was this...

Just as in your case, light came on and codes indicated a failed O2 sensor, sensor 2 bank 2. Paid to replace it, extended warranty didn't cover it, all good for about 6 months. Light come back on with same codes again. O2 sensor was replaced again under part warranty, and 50 miles later the light came on again. After about 4 or 5 of these 50-60 mile cycles, the dealer asked to keep the car for an extended period and hav one of their techs drive the car to see under what conditions it was happening (I told them they were different each time ,highway, low speed, everything, but they wanted to see for them selves and since they gave us a loaner, I didn't really mind). They finally decided that it was the ECU malfunctioning and replaced it under the 8/80. After this, the day they were planning on returning it to us, the light came on again with a failed sensor. This time, moving the sensor moved the fail code too. So they replaced the sensor one last time and all is well with about 1500 miles since all this.

Long story I know, but sounds like similar circumstances, so you might check the ECU. They found that the codes would return after about 5-6 engine starts. Might save you a little time compared to our ordeal. All in all, I would have been happier to not have had to go through it at all, but Sam Swope Infiniti will definitely have a return customer for the way they handled our Q.

So the sensor was bad all along? No scope to check the duty cycle?

No, the sensor had tested good until that last time.

The ECU, or something in line, had damaged 3 of them. It is on its 4th O2 sensor in that position, so I doubt all of the replacements had been bad to start with.

"The ECU, or something in line, had damaged 3 of them"

OR THE CAT IS WEAK And the secondary O2 is showing that.........requires more testing.

We always assume nothing on OBD2 is truely fixed until the ecu goes thru the 50-100 mile and 4-5 restart cycle.

Shame on the dealer for not telling you this! However since all post 95 vehicles work the same way, something you should have learned in the past 10 years...............why just clearing codes is often just a waste of time without REAL DIAGNOSIS.

Some of us on this board are not techs and barely pass for shade tree mechanics. While I enjoy working on my car, I know my limits. I only posted my experience because it seemed directly related to the problem that QBaller was having.

Thanks for the info and I now know something new about OBD2 systems, is there anything that I can do to test the cat, we have emission testing in our area, but for the OBD2 cars they only query the ECU don't do any really testing.

Amen. I'm 1/4 between a shadetree and a tech. I always appreciate others sharing their experience-hope you can help me next time!

I'm more of a shade shrub mechanic....not quite a shade tree. I have a chinese scooter that's acting up as well. I'm goin' in this weekend. Fortunately, my trusty old Pathfinder has given me nary a problem at 132k miles.Latest on the Q: I disconnected the battery overnight. That seemed to have cleared the CEL enough for me to pass the emissions test yesterday. I'll see what transpires as I drive some more....
