so, today i checked my oil and there was absolutly NONE on the dipstick!!! i usually check my oil but since a few months ago i havent for some reason. the temp gauge has never even reached the mid point, so i have never overheated, i do realize why it warms up so quickly i guess.

when i put more oil in and checked it, it was kinda black so im wondering if the little bit of concentrated metal shavings and oil have damaged anything. i was planning on throwing it in the garage with a heater this winter and start installing the turbo parts i've been slowly collecting.

do you guys think this problem has pretty much f***** me when it comes to stock internals turbo? i really dont want to have to pull out the engine and change bearings and s***. i just hit 100,400 miles btw so its not too old, and its a 93 ka24de.

what do you guys think. the car still feels as great as is did when it had almost no oil. thanks.

I'm having a hard time figuring out what you are asking here. What I got out of it is...-Why was my oil so low?-Why is my oil black?-I refilled it and the car still runs fine-I have ka-t? You said something about turbo but I don't know if you are going turbo or have one now.

If your oil is black, change it and the filter. If it is low you are either leaking from somewhere or burning it. Oil just doesn't magically disappear.

If this is a turbo car check your turbo for leaks and shaft play. It may very well need a rebuild especially if it is a junkyard turbo. I had a similar condition on my ka-t when the seals went out...I was blowing smoke out the tail pipe and burning a **** ton of oil every time I drove it.

You could do a compression test or even better do a leak down test to determine if the motor needs a rebuild. If your motor was oil starved you would know it because there would be lots of metal on metal noise followed by a rod or two going through the block. There would also be silvery metal shavings in your oil pan when you change your oil.

If the motor is running fine find out where your oil went. Usual culprits are front and rear main seals, blow by, valve cover gaskets, etc.

Does your oil light work? If you turn the key to on (but dont start the engine) and you see the oil light come on, but it turns off when you start the engine, that means there's just enough oil to build the minimum oil pressure at idle. If you haven't been seeing this light and you dont hear horrendous lifter tick, you're probably ok.

And now for the obligatory

If there is no oil on the dipstick you were a quart low. Probably valve seals burning it off, or forn seal, rear seal, oil pan, valve cover, or timing chain front cover leaking.

my oil light works, i think its being burned because i keep my engine bay VERY clean there is nothing in there that has any dirt/grease/oil buildup. i even looked under the engine and it is perfectly clean everywhere.

i dunno, do you guys think i'll be ok running absolute MAX 12 lbs boost, or well everything just blow up? btw im not boosted right now. im still in the process of collecting the parts.
