O ring or Permatex?

Hi all, I'm trying to reinstall my oil pan but, I lost the pick up tube O ring. Can I use permatex or should I buy the O ring?
I'm trying to put everything back together today and the local auto parts store don;t carry the O ring in stock. So, is it safe to use Permatex instead of the O ring?

I'd go with the O-ring. Dropping the pan because permatex failed would suck... it would also suck if/when the permatex comes out and clogs the pickup.

Definitely order the correct gasket. I remember it being a gasket, not an o-ring.

If it is an o-ring and not a gasket, you can purchase those at your local hardware store in the plumbing section. Don't forget, it has two diameters, the one of the circle and the thickness of the ring itself and you'd want to match both. I've used those for my power steering or oil or something. I forget.

Might want to make sure its oil resistant and everything. There's different materials out there and not all will work in the application.

Look for Buna N o rings.
