ECU PINOUT Guide I used:

http://74.125.47.132/search?q=...fox-a

I was installing my tach gauge, everything was going fine, I wasn't getting a tach signal from PIN 3 on my ECU, so I twisted the tach wire from my gauge into the CAS 180 wire (PIN 30 ).

I reconnect battery, turn car on, all is good it works, I rev it, etc.

I then turn car off, and nudge/push my ECU into the corner and put that cover on it to make it all neat, and then simply tighten my battery terminals.

I turn the car back on and its now shuddering and dying at idle . Its running super rich, and I just can't hold idle, if I maintain a rev it will stay alive, but as soon as I stop it dies.

Also, I can't seem to rev past 2500-3000.

So what in the world could I have done in that short time span, I'm sure its some weirdness with the ECU, maybe a wire loose. What could it possibly be?

I've got a feeling its the MAF wiring maybe...

Thanks!

Well things just went from bad to better to worse.

I found out the ECU was giving a code 12 (MAF), so

I went and messed around with resetting the ECU and whatnot for a bit, and managed to erase the code, but the car still seemed to be in "safe mode".

So I did some elimination and disconnected the CAS 180 wire coming from the ECU, I found out the car still started and did the same routine.

So I go back to reconnect it, and now the car won't even start.

Seems like every time I touch the ECU, things get worse.

I'm getting a code 55 now, (Other Malfunction. CONSULT Terminal Required).

Should I stop now and get some pro help, or is there some fix to this, I don't know why it won't start considering the wire is connected and I didn't mess anything up (I think).

well your car not reving past 3k is a symptom of a bad or incorrectly wired maf. i definitely suggest removing any wiring going to your new tach and cleaing up any loose ends there (being as thats where your problems started) after that your on your own. a word of advise tho.... randomly mucking about in your wiring will never end good.

Yeah I figured, but seeing as how I disconnected by CAS 180 ECU wire, and then started the car. And then reconnected it, and it wouldn't start,is it possible that,

I just messed up my timing? As in its 180 out? Or no?

I'm just trying to see if this is still just a wiring issue, or if I need to redo the timing on the car....

changing your wiring wouldn't change the mechanics of your engine. if it ran before and you haven't changed anything mechanically then it will run again when you get your electronics sorted out. i think you shorted out your ecu when you moved it back into place. i would start by disconnecting the battery and looking over the wiring in near the ecu, check and make sure all the wires terminate in the ecu plug correctly and there are no shorts in that area. leave the battery disconnected long enuff to reset the ecu. looking over your ecu pinout i would have used pin 3-tach signal. its possible that your somehow screwing up the 180 signal and it was running by using the 1deg signal, when you started screwing with other stuff the ecu finally said "suck it" and went to sleep so to speak, or cashed out, wont know till you reset it. its also possible that you somehow wasted your CAS by messing with its wiring. as a side note consult cables are cheap and nice to have.

Fix your maf dude you got a code for it and just erased it to over it up, also your getting a 2.5 rev limit thats a sign of a bad maf.so why haven't you fixed your maf? weither the maf itself failed or you tinkered with the wiring, figure it out cuz it sure sounds like its your maf.

Yeah I'm going to tackle the MAF issue properly this time, but I gotta get the car to start first.

Thanks for the advice moso, I reset the ECU and and I checked all wiring near it and everything looks good. I tried the tach signal pin first, but I wasn't getting anything.

I checked codes on the ECU and I'm getting 55. Which is CONSULT terminal needed, should I get a consult cable then ($50 one)?

I don't think I messed the ECU up, but is there a chance it might run with another SR ECU?

Finally managed to get around to replacing the MAF today, and now the car no longer gives me a code 12, its giving out a 55.

It still runs horrible, exactly like it did when I got the bad MAF code.

I checked the CAS and it is fine.

So what could it be now? I'm looking for boost leaks but can't seem to find any...

i would probably get the consult cable, at least then you can see what the hell is going on.

Well finally fixed the problem, turns out that the entire issue was a boost leak. When I took off right after wiring the gauge, I boosted and my intercooler coupling slipped off.

So...check for boost leaks when in doubt haha.
