Car: 1992 infiniti G20 197000 miles still strong!

i have a 92 G20 that the od is stuck off the light works on the dash and the trans shifts perfect 1st-3rd but wont shift to fourth its killing me on gas as for i use the highway alot any ideas could fourth just be gone or is there a relay or somthing this is my fist front wheel drive project thanks THIS SITE ROCKS BY THE WAY!!!!

I don't know much of anything about the G20. But if you can see the light come one when the switch is pressed and vise versa we can rule that out.

Welcome to NICO!

Is the car warming up to normal operating temperature? Most Nissan products lock out overdrive if the transmission isn't warm enough. There is usually a sensor in the transmission, or the ECU bases this on the coolant temperature.

In Houston, I would think it would work sometimes though. If your fluid levels are correct and the ATF is somewhat clean, I'm going to guess the transmission is just worn out...

If you know - How many miles are on this transmission? What is it's maintenence history?

good call on the temp. the temp gauge dose not work at all that could be it as for the trans i have no idea if it has ever been changed or rebuilt. but i will be checking out that temp issue very soon
