I recently bought a 96 sylvia with a JDM Sr20 engine swap. If I use a handheld scanner I have no issues getting codes from the computer. When I bring it to an inspection station and they hook it up to the NY scanner it can't read any emission codes. Is there anything I can do. Is there some type of piggyback connection that I can get so it can read the emission codes. The car is in great shape, runs / looks great.

Let me go ahead and say it before someone else does. It's Silvia.

Second, is it a JDM car or is it a 240 with a swapped SR20? You'll get flack for calling it a Silvia if it's really a swapped 240. The people around here get touchy on that thing for some reason.

SR20s in Japan were never meant to be ODBII as they were here in the US. You can hook a consult up to it and get it to pull codes. I think an ODBI scanner will pull codes as well, but you'll be hard pressed to get an ODBII scanner to work properly.

One problem that you might also be having is that SRs are not equipped with required emissions equipment US cars are. They might be wondering where the information for EGR operation is.
