ny inspection/emissions.... HELP...

ok, this is pretty annoying. all places in my local area have been giving memuch grief about this. i live in pomona/spring valley area and my car is a 91. i know ussaully 96 and up goes onto a dyno and ussaully they go to an all data for visaul inspection. i also know anything more than 38 bucks is rediculous for inspection/ and emitions. so far everyshow i go to is giving me utter crap about it costing over 38(anywhere from 100-200 starting) ive also been told running methanol can help me quite a bit but id like to research that idea before i even think about it. if u guys know any good shops i the area or heplful facts that i can bring to the shop then post dat shiz. hmmm ...... starting to wonder if there just being d!ck because a 18yr old kid with long *** hair knows there way around a shop better than the skill deprived "lead mechanic" . hope my pride n joy doesnt get inpounded. btw ive also been told by a buddy that even tho when you fail emitions a shop is supossed to give you a sticker good for somthing like 30 days, is this true?

sorry for the long post, beig pulled over twice in a day for a bad sticker is too much, soo lucky i didnt get my car impounded......least there are still some cops with heart.

Okay, hopefully you can understand this. Since your car is a 91' you are in a bracket called OBD1....My understanding of this is: You are exempt from an emissions test and a computer plugin reading(not sure what they call it officially). You are not exempt from a visual inspection; i.e.: Cat must be in place with no holes, exhaust must not have any holes in it either. Bring your car down to binghamton if you you are having trouble finding a trustworthy shop or person. I know a few ppl who would pass your car with just a quick 5 min safety check. Your car will not get impounded unless you did something like stuff some crack rocks in your AC vents...Do some research on OBD1 cars. Call around.

where are u guys at? i didnt know 91 are excempt from the sniffer? im in the city though so it might be different. i just pay off some guy to pass me

No, thats not true. I believe only cars that are older than 1980 are exempt from emisions. I'm paying 100 today to have my car inspected, no cat and all. You need to find a crooked shop. Here is a quote directly from the NYS DMV site.

These motor vehicles are exempt from emissions inspection for gas-powered vehicles:

Vehicles that are less than two model years old, or more than 25 model years old (for example, a 1975 model in 2001).

But, if you want to get an inspection youll probably have to bite the bullet and pay about 100$ anyway.

no luck, just them talking **** about nissan. after wasting about 10 minutes asking why they wouldnt do my car soon one of the guys slipped and said" what ever man nissan makes **** cars anyways, i looked at a 70ish 240 and the thing almost fell in half when i poked it. not worth the time. bring it in later and ill see if the bays are clear." now i have an idea why im gettig bull**** and the run around. next shop hehe.
