I was just given a NX2000 for free. It needs some body work to pass inspection. It also has 360,000 miles on stock engine. Before I invest time and money into the body, I was wondering how hard it would be to swap out the SR20DE with a SR20DET Red top. Any information would be very helpful. Thank you.

Hey RED_DET, I was checking out your product line and was curious what kind of difference boring my sr20de would make as far as HP. I'm not against the idea of rebuilding, I just figured if I'm going to buy a new engine, I would go a little meaner.

It really depends on your goals. You can easily make 350-400 whp and never do anything to the block except add some cams. I am putting down 300-310 whp and really don't see any need for more, as you will learn the transmission is the weakest link. I have been through 3 transmissions. #1 finally fell to the dreaded 5th gear pop-out that you can do nothing about. This issue was on all 91-94 se-r's and 91-93 nx2k's. #2 & #3 fell to the destruction of 4th gear. These cars are getting rare, so transmissions are becoming limited. Although for a boosted car I recommend running a Infiniti g20t transmission for the taller gearing. You want to make sure it is the (t) touring model from 91-96 as those had limited slip differentials.

The other option to help with imploding transmissions is finding a b15 sentra transmission or p11(00-02) g20t transmission. Those aren't going to be cheap though and require you to convert the hydraulic setup to to cable, which isn't a big issue, the cost you will pay for one is the issue. 800-1k is what I normally see this go for. Those transmission are suppose to be stronger and can handle more power. 300-350 whp on a fwd sentra/nx2k is ridiculous anyways.
