I have noticed a few issues recently with my Rogue and they weren't there before. The only thing that has changed is Recall Work ( CVT Noise related software update, Steering Column Assembly repair, TPMS Nuts)

1. Excessive vibration in D or R Position

My car now vibrates excessively whenever I engage either the forward (D) or reverse (R) gear from stand-still position. Same thing happens when I stop in traffic and the gear is in D position with brakes applied .Generally the vibrations tend to build in twenty seconds within coming to a stop and vary in intensity though they can be felt clearly specially with warm engine. This happens mostly in evenings. They can also be felt on the Steering Wheel. However the vibrations subside when the car starts moving or when I increase the rpm to above 800 revs/min by softly stepping on the gas pedal while keeping the brake pedal down..

The idling rpm is about 750 revs/min. This is when the car vibrates badly on D or R gears.I know there may be one or many reasons for this like

- Engine Mount- Transmission Mounts- Motor Mounts- Torque Converter- Strut Bearing / Front Suspension Assembly- Axle- Steering Column Assembly- Intake Boots and hoses- Crank Case Vent Valve

and so on but I can not pin-point as to what is causing this issue and need help.

I had a somewhat similar issue before ( at that time it was excessive vibrations on passenger side) and when dealership changes Strut Bearing for a suspension related issue it was resolved.

2. Air Conditioner Noise : In defrost mode or when I switch AC on in Cool mode I hear a noise that wasn't there before. This noise is similar to a compressor noise but wasn't there before or probably was too faint to hear. When I switch to Heat mode the noise disappears.

3. Jerk /Lurch Forward while coming to a stop in D position

I know every car lurches a bit while coming to a stop from a drive mode. Though I noticed that in my Rogue this jerk is a bit more intense now a days.

I have been to the dealership and they say its normal but they will call me again when they have a Rogue for service so that they can compare.

Any thought? What could be wrong here ? Thanx

Hi Maverick,

The vibration issue you're describing has not been described on the Rogue forum, to my knowledge. I can't say exactly what could be causing the problem, hopefully some of our more technical members can offers suggestsions.

My suggestion, considering this occurred as a result of service work that was recently completed, would be to contact the dealer immediately. Even if you don't have time to take it in just yet, give them feedback following the work they recently completed, and let them know they've messed something up. I'm sure they'll be able to fix it on warranty, and even if you were off warranty they'd still be liable since it's obvious they caused some problems with your vehicle. Good luck.

Regarding the surge/jerk when coming to a stop, I've always had this issue, was quite annoyed by it at first and spent time learning that it is apparently normal if you drive very conservativley.

If you drive more aggressively, race up to lights and brake hard you most likely don't have this issue or don't notice it, it's only when you coast gently to a stop that the torque converter unlocking can be felt as a jolt, and translates into a surge forward. At times I've felt this is actually quite dangerous, and the only resolution I arrived at was to drive less efficiently and not coast as gradually to stops (i.e. brake harder).

I took a test drive today and noted that Idle RPMs fall to below 700 RPM under fully warmed up condition and that is the point when vibrations occur.the vibrations are directly proportional to this decrease after 700 RPM ie lower the RPM higher the vibrations are. When in N or P mode, RPMS stay at 800 RPMs but in D or R Mode they can go below 700 RPMs.I have seen them going upto 650 RPM (pointer in between 600 and 700 mark)

Fellow Rogue Owners ,What is the standard Idle RPM In D and R Mode / N and P Mode for Rogue ? Please share with me so that I can get to Nissan SC with it.Could it be that Idle Air volume learning procedure wasn't done during ECM reflash ?

Thanks for help.

It could be a host of things. The idle air volume can be one of them. IMHO, I would give the dealer first crack at fixing the problem.

There isn't much use comparing idle speeds with the dash mounted tach as they likely vary in accuracy between models.

I do get a small amount of vibration when the A/C is on and idling in D or R. It's always been there from the very first day I brought mine home.

Finally, give your vehicle time to re-adjust. Both the CVT and engine computers have self learning modes that will fine tune their operation. This process will take at least 1-2 weeks depending on how much you drive.
