Thanks for the reply....the light is on only when the key is on....judging from the paperwork supplied with the car,(dating back to 94) the light has been on since 03 at least....saw it mentioned in 'technician comments' on 2 or 3 different work reciepts.....apparantly they were never told to fix it......is there an R&R manual you would recomend?.....I have had mixed results with Chiltons...had one on a 93 GMC and the pics were nothing like my vehicle, and it was 100% original because I bought it new....thanks for the 'starting points...:>)s13sr20chris wrote:ok, stuff to check...brake light: on all the time or just when the key is on? if its on all the time i imagine you kill your battery every night. i would check the switch by the brake pedal for a short.brake pulsation: probably rotors out of flat. resurface or replace.shifter: the bushing on the end of the shifter inside the transmission is probably worn out. you can remove the shifter assembly and replace the $3 bushing.oil: probably the front crank seal.transmission: change the gear oil with a gl-4 oil(NOT GL-5!!!)
Not low on fluid...yes its the light on the dash, not on the rear of the vehicle....I should have been more specific.....the switch on the e-brake is suspect...is it hard to get to?...do I have to remove the console?....can I replace the shifter bushing from here also or will I need to pull the transmission?...I have a similar problem with my 87 Camaro....light 'flickers' if passenger leans against the e-brake lever...thanks for the reply...:>)NISTECH wrote:If your talking about the brake light on your dash, you could either be low on fluid in the resivor or your ebrake switch is dead or out of adjustment.
curious what yr your camaro is as I too have a 92 240 and an 81 camaro..lol
Thats great news....my Camaro has the pull handle on the passenger side of the console....thanks...:>)NISTECH wrote:The shifter bushing can be accessed and replaced from the top. The ebrake switch on both cars can be accessed by removeing the console , there are only 4 to 6 screws holding the console in then it is mearly lifted off. Do both the shifter and the switch when the console is off. My camaro has the foot brake pedal for the Ebrake but if I am not mistaken the 87 has the pull handle in the console.
